Stop Asking Yourself Crappy Questions

When you’re feeling down on yourself, one of the best techniques I’ve seen to turn things around is to stop asking yourself crappy questions.

Which one of these internal thoughts sounds familiar? (or maybe it's all of them!)

  1. Why was I such a bad mum today?

  2. How could I make this mistake at work?

  3. Why can't I ever get through my to do list?

  4. Why am I so scattered today?

I don’t know about you but I immediately tense up when I ask myself those questions.

Here are two techniques to try this week – I’ll use the first question as an example:

  1. Answer the question. Why were you such a bad mum today? Probably you were tired, or PMSing or maybe the answer will be… I actually wasn’t that bad, I was good all day, I just had a couple of moments where I lost my temper.

  2. Flip the question. How were you a good mum today? No doubt you fed your children, probably bathed them, put them in clothes you paid for, drove them to school, the list goes on.

This week when you notice yourself asking crappy questions, answer the question rather than stewing on it, flip the question to the positive, or do both!
